What I'm Doing For Earth Hour

I’ve received a few email/myspace/facebook messages about Earth Hour– the hour on March 29th when everyone, on Earth, is supposed to turn out the lights, for an hour, for, again, Earth.
People want to know: “Jill, what are you doing for Earth Hour?” or sometimes: “Jill, what are you doing for Earth Hour?”
There’s been some ambiguity as to whether Earth Hour participation requires you to turn everything off– computers, tvs, the fridge, heart monitors, etc… or just the lights. But I’m not too hung up on semantics. As a concerned Earthling, or as I am wont to say, Citizen Of Earth, I have already put together a loose itinerary for myself for Earth Hour.
My list may be a little ambitious for just one 60-minute wrinkle in time, but nevertheless, I am willing to share. So without further ado, I give you: Jill’s Earth Hour:
- Looting in the dark, with my trusty hemp sack and crank-powered flashlight.
- Dodging the border on my folding bike.
- Hiding evidence with my garden trowel, industrial-sized bucket of eco-solvent, and re-usable j-cloths.
- Transfering my gro-closet to my gro-solar-powered-backpack so my bean sprouts don’t die.
- Watching the television of my imagination, the theatre of my broken psyche, and surfing a web of untold lies.
- Pedaling fast enough to play minesweeper.
- Five or six things involving friction.
- Semafore crank calls.
- Inventing the Jillenberg press, an early 21st C innovation Wikipedia will later note for its use of potato stamps and edible body paint.
- Remember that trick where you can make a kazoo out of a comb and some wax paper? I’m a recycle the paper after.

I feel this is simply a move by the candle lobby to increase their market share.
