This week in YA blogs

Loathe though I am to announce any regular blog feature (as I am prone to announce BIG REGULAR THINGS and then never follow through), my recent interview with Torontoist’s Ms. Karen Whaley has me thinking about all the great YA blogs out there and what I can do to make them known around here. So I’m going to attempt a brief link roundup. Maybe it will happen only once. Maybe it will happen irregularly. Or maybe it will happen every single Saturday from here ’til the end of time. Let’s find out.
Some posts that stood out for me this week:
- Quote of the week:
“I’d like to point out to any Hollywood scriptwriters out there that having children does not mean that you understand them. It means you live with them. Any child could tell you this—they know that simply living with adults does not necessarily put you anywhere close to understanding how their wee little minds work. And I’ll tell you, the wee little minds of some adults flummox me sometimes.”
— Editorial Anonymous (not just YA but all kids’ lit)
- Best discussion of an eternally unresolveable issue: In a discussion spanning two seperate posts, The Longstockings and their peanut gallery (including myself) debate product placement in young adult novels. Ah, the friction between art and commerce! How it warms the cockles of my heart.
- Best use of Zombies in a YA Blog: Maureen Johnson is deep into Round 2 of a contest that asks her readers to “improve” works of literature by inserting Zombies.
