Another excellent, exhausting whirlwind of a day! I feel like this morning was a week ago.
Today, Torontoist’s lovely and talented Karen Whaley posted a rather fun interview we did by email this week.
In the afternoon, I had a great time presenting at ALOUD: A Festival of Young Readers, with the 100% fabulous b-girl Mae Hem. There was much ado about chocolate milk spewing forth from noses, and the origins and manifestations of b-girl dandruff. Young audiences are fun. The presentation went off without a hitch, the kids asked lots of questions, and it was really nice to get to see so many former co-workers from Harbourfront Centre. My only regret so far is not having enough time to stop and chat with everyone.
The Star sent a photographer by, and he kept trying to get MaeHem to spin as though she was going to kick me in the face (see above)– a suggestion neither of us was too keen on– but knowing Star photographers, it’s going to look amazing when it goes to print. (Saturday, we think.)
The Rapper and I capped off the day with a treck up to Rexdale (involving a walk, two subways, a bus, and a van with frozen doors) to present a rapping workshop to 9th graders at Pathways to Education. The kids’ energy was infectious, and we were truly impressed by the rhymes they came up with, as well as the astonishing performance skills that emerged from some of the most unassuming members of the group. Excellent good fun all around.
And now… to bed. Tomorrow starts really bright and early at high-energy kids’ station, YTV. “Ohmigod, you’re going to be on THE ZONE?” a fully-grown adult male friend asked me this evening. OMIGOD, YES, The Zone. For Realz.
