Toronto, day 1.5

I’m in Toronto all week, and thanks to Readings @ Harbourfront Centre (I’ll be presenting at ALOUD tomorrow) I get to stay at the fabulous lakefront Westin Harbourcastle, a hotel so large, it could contain a small city. Its a funny sensation for me to stay in a hotel in a city I lived in for over a decade, and the room has many interesting features, such as:

A nice view of the frigid harbour of Lake Ontario:

A bathroom mirror that makes it look like you have square pupils:

A shower head that looks to have been designed to consume as much water as possible:

And furniture which makes the Rapper feel like he should drape himself suggestively about the room, like so, winter boots, and coat and all:

We got into town a little late yesterday, due to the usual VIA rail shenanigans. I got to do an interview with The Star’s Raju Mudhar from the train, which I must confess made me feel terribly busy and important. I also amused myself by compulsively pressing “refresh” on my inbox, despite the uber-slow wifi they’ve now got on those trains. (Hey, it’s better than nothing… I guess. Too bad its still to slow for blogging though.)

The Rapper and I had a great time last night at CKLN, on Droppin’ Dimez. Great champions of literacy that they are, they were really excited to have an author on, and said they wished more writers would drop by. So hear that writers: don’t forget CKLN. They love you over there. Droppin’ Dimez is a great show with fab DJs. I’m going to try to get back in there next time I’m in town if they’ll have me.

This morning was lots of busy fun, driving to bookstores and meeting the amazing (also friendly and enthusiastic, even first thing in the morning) men and women who do such a fine job getting fledgling books into the eager hands of Canadian readers. Booksellers, I salute you.

Right now, the Rapper is off photocopying lyric sheets to use for his upcoming blockbuster gig: Hip Hop Karaoke, Montreal, and I am killing some time at the hotel until lunch, eagerly (of COURSE I’m not nervous!) looking forward to dropping by the CBC this afternoon for Here & Now (4:45pm, FM 99.1 in Toronto).

More later, including an announcement of some special Break On Through-inspired apparel!
