Welcome to the new, improved JillMurray.com! Argyle, because I am pulling up my socks… Textiles, because this blog is woven from the stories that make up the fabric of my life… Laid out as it is because in design or writing, I aspire to a style that is both textured and straightforward…
Or, more likely, because I felt like it.
Not only are we running with a new design today, but we are with a different host, on a different server. You should now be able to enjoy far more consistent up-times with no weird database-accessing issues and uncomfortable stretches of dead air. And that’s important to me. I never want us to feel awkward around each other.
I’ve been wanting to re-design this space for, oh, three or four years. The original design was something I put together as a PHP experiment back before blogging platforms like WordPress came into play. When I finally made the switch to WP last year, my priority was to focus on writing regularly. I figured I’d find time to re-design in the months that followed. No such luck. I’ve since worked through five or six concepts, each one more brilliant and hilarious than the last, but I never uploaded any of them because every time I got close to finishing, I got busy, and then changed my mind.
So I am proud of this design, like I am proud of so many things in my life, not because it is genius, but because it is done. It’s true what they say. You can’t win if you don’t play.
Because this is new, new, new, there are bound to be some bugs, not to mention a long list of tweaks and improvements I already have planned. If you notice something wonky, feel free to comment on it, and I’ll prioritize your concerns first.
If you’re looking for the categories list that used to be on the left, they are now down at the bottom of the page, in a pull-down menu. I have lots more fun features to roll out, and I look forward to being able to fiddle with the site obsessively until it reaches a point of zen web perfection. (IE: never)
Thanks to the brilliant and wonderfully named SquidFingers for the patterns I’ve used in the background and header of this template.
