My review of Step Up is um, up, over at Torontoist.com.
It has more of a “how I spent my Friday evening” vibe than most of my Torontoist contributions, so I figure it’s worth mentioning here. Much thanks to Shebang! and co. for an evening well wasted.
“Pushing the teen celebrity quotient to it’s, like-OMG, zenith, was the sighting of Amanda Bynes, who, judging by the way she shielded herself from camera phones with both hands, was in the crowd because she felt like seeing something, knows that lead guy from the last film she was in, and everyone else was going anyway– not because she wanted to have anything to do with Step Up.”
I’m so grateful to have something, anything funny to talk about on TOist. Half of what I do there is just “hey I saw this interesting thing, go check it out,” and then commenters pile on top of me, accusing me of being a hipster follower and wishing me death and discomfort. Or I criticize something and they tell me I’m a hipster hater and that all creative expression is useless to human civilization.
So it’s pretty much win-win, today even more so.

Reviewing “Step Up” is so hipster-ironic of you.

-OOF!-
David. David! You’re killing me here.
I know you’re joking, but it hurts, man.
I’ll have you know that I am sitting here listening to the new Christina Aguilera album without even a shred of self-consciousness as well.

Hey, at least people pay attention to you there. I sometimes feel like I am completely invisible there. Even people telling me my band sucks would be better than absolutely no attention at all, while they all rail about how awesome the latest band that just wrote their first song with more than one chord in it is.
But hey, at least it’s not Stillepost. Talk about Hipsters!

Yeah, well… I said it was win-win, right? I may be sarcastic, but I’m not totally lying.
I pay attention to you!
But no, let’s not talk about hipsters.
