Great! It’s going great.

I’ve got over 60,000 words now, which is about 240 manuscript pages. The end is in sight. It’s still a whole bunch of plot action away, but what’s left is essentially so straightforward that I can see the path to the end in my mind’s eye without referring to outlines or wondering how to fit this or that or the other into here or there, or this other place.

What’s more, I’ve already written quite a lot of what remains. I’ve got essential scenes and dialogue mapped out, and several pages of detail sketched out for the battle scenes at the end. (Most of which I simply observed and took notes about at the last Break & Enter, here in Toronto, in August, when I was just starting this project. Thank you for the excellent timing on that event, Shebang!. I never would have been able to pull that level of detail from my memory.)

The holidays are so great for getting work done. I’m taking a little break from typing to re-read what I have so far and make sure the pacing is good, and details aren’t backwards and everyone still speaks and behaves in a manner consistent with the early chapters. It feels like procrastination but it just might be the most important part of the whole process.

I’m excited. It’s going to be so cool when it’s finished. I still need to find a good title for it but that’s a topic for another day.

In the meantime, here’s a link to some b-girl non-fiction I’ve been trying to get my hands on for some time now: We B Girlz.
